About the event

About the Tour: Visit the Fort Shafter bunker, known as the "Lizard" or Building 1492. This hidden tunnel complex was where the Women's Air Raid Defense, or "Radar Girls," diligently monitored Hawaii's air defense during World War II. They operated a large plotting board with an island grid to track radar contacts. For those interested in learning more before the tour, we recommend reading "Radar Girls" by Sarah Ackerman.
