About the event
For our last Explore Hawaii event of the year, we will be touring Doris Duke’s Honolulu mansion, Shangri-La. Tickets are available for purchase on the Honolulu Museum of Art website (https://honolulumuseum.org/shangri-la/). Be sure to select Thursday, May 16 at 0900, and GET YOUR TICKETS SOON as they WILL sell out.
Participants should plan to arrive at the Museum by 0845; paid parking is available across the street. Please RSVP to this event if you would like to join for lunch, and Lain and Amy will make us reservations at the museum café for when we return from the Shangri-La tour. Your ticket includes entrance to the museum and its many outstanding collections (and its wonderful gift shop), so plan to spend time here after lunch if you can!
Background: Shangri La is a museum for learning about the global culture of Islamic art and design through innovative exhibitions, educational initiatives, public programs, and community partnerships. Built in 1937 as the Honolulu home of Doris Duke (1912-1993), Shangri La was inspired by Duke’s extensive travels throughout North Africa, the Middle East, and South Asia, and reflects artistic and architectural traditions from these regions. Shangri La is the only standalone museum of Islamic Art in the US. To learn more about Shangri La, please visit shangrilahawaii.org.
Reservation and Cancellation Deadlines based on policies of Honolulu Museum of Art. Tickets must be purchased directly through the museum.
