MEMBERS ONLY: Begin on historic Palm Circle and then explore the tunnels up the hill, codenamed “Lizard” during the war, where the Women’s Air Raid Defense (the “Radar Girls”) operated.

About the event

For our October event, for the second year we are continuing what we hope will become an annual Hui tradition of hosting noted local historian Jessie Higa for a historical walking tour of Fort Shafter.  Jessie is a longtime vendor for MWR and frequently leads tours related to the events of December 7, 1941.  She has volunteered to give Hui members a special tour - not (yet!) available outside of the Hui - of how Fort Shafter fits in to the narrative of that fateful day and what followed for the spouses and families living here on base.  We are delighted that Jim Proctor will also join us again.  Jim retired from the Army and again from DoD as a civilian.  Not only is he a history buff, but, in December 1991, in his last Active Duty assignment, he hosted the WARD ladies in the Lizard for their 50th Anniversary of…
